OVERVIEW OF PLAN
Taking the hCG
Regardless of which method you use to administer the hCG (sublingual or injections), you still follow the same guidelines. You take your first dosage on your first loading day. This is usually continued for SIX days and then you skip a day. Then continue for another six days and skip a day. This is to prevent your body from becoming immune to the hCG. This recommendation is optional; when done – the pattern is continued for the entire round, regardless if you’re doing a three week round, six week round, injections or sublingual.
The hCG diet plan consists of 3 stages: The first 2 load days, the 500 calorie fat burning stage, and the maintenance phase.
Days 1 – 2:
Begin taking the hCG hormone as instructed. These are “loading days,” which consist of eating high fat foods for 2 days. It’s highly suggested to eat a lot of highly concentrated foods. Avocado, salmon, and peanut butter are great options but milk chocolate, pastries, sugar, fried meats, eggs and bacon, mayonnaise work as well; it’s personal preference. For the patients that actually load correctly, they usually do not struggle with the difficulties of hunger and fatigue in the beginning stages of the diet. Patients who do not follow instructions on the loading days have a much more difficult time in the beginning and have a more difficult first week.
500-CALORIE FAT BURNING STAGE:
Day 3 – until 72 hours after the last dose of hCG:
Continue taking the prescribed dose of hCG. Begin the 500-calorie per day diet.
Must drink ½ – 1 gallon of water daily. Also be aware that many things contain sugar or fats that we may not realize as: chewing gum, mints, vitamins, cough syrups, etc.

IF YOU HAVE A MONTHLY MENSTRUAL CYCLE: it is recommended that you begin this protocol on the third day of your cycle.It is also recommended that if you are in the middle of your protocol and your cycle begins, you should NOT take any HCG for the first three days of the cycle.
MOST COMMON MISTAKES ON THE 500 CALORIE PHASE
- Not counting the calories in the spices; check to see if any form of sugar is one of the ingredients.
- Chewing gum or eating mints.
- Drinking diet drinks.
- Eatingtoomuchbeef.Buffaloislessfatty.Eatmorechickenandapprovedfish. Weighing 100 grams after cooking.
- Eating the same protein for both lunch and dinner. Food selection should be varied.
- Not drinking enough water.You should be drinking at least 2 quarts of water perday
- Eating at restaurants.You may think you are ordering plain chicken, but that chickencouldhavebeenbrushedwitholiveoil.
- Increase water intake 2-3 quarts a day.
- Try adding a glass or two of green tea.
- Cut beef or buffalo down or out.
- Check all condiments for any form of sugar.
- Try leaving out one or both bread sticks.
- Constipation can be a concern. Drink “Smooth MoveTea” or take “SqueakyClean”
- You will always consume 500 calories per day.
- Don’t mix more than 1 type of vegetable, protein, or fruit.
- Don’t eat all 500 calories at once.
- You are allowed 2 melba toast per day, factor the calories into your 500.
- You can’t eat the same protein in same day.
DURING THE 500 CALORIE PHASE –
- Two small apples do not equal one regular apple.
- No juicing; be sure to eat all the flesh of an orange or grapefruit.
- Don’t substitute other fruits even if they are low in calories.
- Meat can be cooked by broiling, grilling, or baking, but don’t use any additional fat or oils during cooking.
- Do NOT use aerosol cooking sprays.
- Use food scale; weigh meat raw. Remove all visible fat.
- CHICKEN CHOICES: Boneless, skinless chicken breast only.

Who can’t do HCG?
- A history of hormone responsive cancers – remission or active (breast, uterine, ovarian, prostate, cervical)
- Breastfeeding, pregnancy
- BMI under 20, body fat percentage under 15%
- Prior reaction to HCG
- Polycystic ovarian syndrome – PCOS
- Recent major medical illness- heart attack or stroke
- Type 1 diabetes mellitus
- Current cancer of any type (with the exception of skin cancer)
- Suspicious mass being evaluated for a possible cancer
- Unstable medical state (i.e. recent myocardial infarction or cardiac arrest, recent bypass surgery or stenting/angioplasty, recent hospitalization for major medical illness or poorly controlled medical condition),
- Malignant hypertension (>180/120) or Uncontrolled hypertension
- Precocious puberty (sexual and physical body changes that happen earlier than normal), or any other condition which makes the practitioner feel may be unsafe.
Drinks: Water 1/2 to 1 gallon of water per day. You will retain water if your intake falls below its normal requirements. Tea, coffee, mineral water and Zevia (natural sugar free soda) are allowed.
Condiments: Juice of one lemon daily, apple cider vinegar, Bragg Liquid Amino’s, salt, pepper, mustard powder, garlic, basil, parsley, thyme, marjoram may be used for seasoning. Read all labels on spices as many contain sugar. Salsa or pico de gallo with no sugar in moderation. Truvia or Stevia is an excellent sugar substitute. Other artificial sweeteners like Splenda, Sweet n Low, NutraSweet and Equal contain toxic ingredients like saccharin, sucralose and aspartame and should not be used while on the hCG diet. Chicken or Beef bouillon cubes (carbohydrate free). Pure horseradish, All natural Hickory Liquid Smoke (no sugar no msg), minced onions. Use Pam as your cooking Spray.
Exercise: Exercise isn’t necessary for the diet to work, but going for a 30 minute daily walk can help a little. Stay away from aerobics and running, you will get very hungry and fatigued.
Weigh in: Get a digital scale. Weigh yourself every day at the same time after you have emptied your bladder first thing in the morning, record your weight every day on the chart provided. Be sure to take your measurements before beginning, as some days you will not notice any weight loss but you will see loose of inches. Measure each week at the same time of day and record your results. You will be amazed!
Cosmetics: Most makeups and lotions are made with fatty materials that can be absorbed by the body just as if they were eaten and will interfere with weight reduction. Here are some alternative suggestions: Neutrogena Oil free Moisture Face Lotion, mineral oil, Baby oil, Coconut oil, Aloe Vera gel, Alba free lotion, Mineral makeup. Lip products are permitted. Shampoo and Conditioner are okay but rinse thoroughly after each use. Leave in conditioners are discouraged.
Note: Many have used cosmetics and lotions without a negative effect on their weight loss. However, it you notice a drop off or slowing in your weight loss while using these products, discontinue using them.
SIDE EFFECTS & POTENTIAL ADVERSE REACTIONS: Increased fertility, headache, irritability, depression, fatigue, edema, precocious (premature) puberty, gynocomastia, injection site pain and/or bruising, electrolyte imbalances, dizziness, constipation, hypersensitivity reactions which include erythema, uticaria, rash angioedema, dyspnea and shortness of breath. A possibility of ovarian hyper stimulation (a syndrome of sudden ovarian enlargement ascites and/or pleural effusion) – IF YOU HAVE A HISTORY OF PCOS — PLEASE INFORM THE PRACTITIONER; multiple births; thromboembolism; migraine; Electrolyte imbalances.
WHAT ARE OTHER POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS FROM HCG THERAPY? Minimal pain at the injection site, water retention, pelvic pains, nausea, and breast tenderness. It’s not uncommon to find some swelling, redness, burning, or itching at the injection site. If it does not subside however, please contact your practitioner or go to the nearest emergency center right away.
CAUTIONS: HEADACHES are most commonly due to caffeine withdrawal. When initiating the diet with caffeine drinkers, it is advisable to forewarn them to gradually reduce caffeinated drinks while adding in water so as to not go through a quick withdrawal, which usually produces headaches. Other common reasons for headache are the change in diet which is dramatic for many. If this is the reason, it will typically reverse within a couple of days. IRRITABILITY is most commonly from change in routine, which again will typically reverse in a couple of days. This is a listed side effect of HCG but has been extremely rare to see in practice at the low doses used for weight loss. FATIGUE may occur and can be treated with an IM dose of Vitamin B12, which often makes patients feel markedly better within a day. SLEEP is often improved in length and quality during the protocol. Stamina is sometimes is decreased and sometimes is increased. Most patients report increased energy over the course of the diet.
Strict diet compliance is necessary to experience success on the center’s HCG diet program. Patients will be administered HCG by self-injection or taken by sublingual tablet (under the tongue) and will be monitored by the medical providers at Indian Lake Medical Weight Loss & Wellness, Pllc on a biweekly to weekly basis.
ATTENTION FEMALES: Do NOT take the HCG while the first few “heavy days” of your menstrual cycle. The increase in your hormone levels may cause you to bleed heavier than normal or you may skip your period entirely. It is recommended to start the HCG medication at least 10 days before your menstrual cycle begins or immediately after. You must stop the HCG medication as soon as your period begins. When you notice only a small amount of spotting (about 3 or 4 days later depending on your cycle), you may resume the medication. Again, we recommend that you hold the HCG during the first 2-3 days of a female’s menstrual cycle; to prevent heavy bleeding/menstruating at the start of the menses.
