PrescriptionPLUS Program
Diet & Behavior Modification:
Strategy:
We educate on the importance of behavior modification in terms of successfully maintaining attained weight loss. In certain cases, prescription medication and supervised low calorie diets are implemented (when indicated). Also, Indian Lake MWL teaches you how to be assertive when it comes to social eating behaviors. Our approach to weight-loss focus’s on teaching and reinforcing the importance of behavior and lifestyle changes. We teach that many people can follow a diet and loose weight; however, we help you understand that challenge that exist in maintaining that weight-loss. We encourage record keeping and the assessment of current eating behavior and associated activities.
Our belief is that teaching behavior modification facilitates lifelong success. We understand that any changes in eating and exercising behaviors must become habitual, which takes time. We offer monthly assessments to help mold your behavioral change. We educate you on the roles eating slower and having portion control, vitamins, minerals, fiber and water, increased physical activity, attitudes, self-esteem, holiday eating; and stress eating play on weight gain. We also conveniently offer weekly weigh ins.
We understand that the principal concepts of the energy balance equation: “energy in, versus energy out,” must be addressed to have a successful weight loss program. To loose weight, you must consume fewer calories than you burn. That is, of course, easier said than done. No matter what weight-loss methods you may employ (diet, exercise, medication or surgery), the principle of energy balance is unavoidable.
Pharmacology:
With the appropriate medical supervision and counseling, prescription appetite suppressants have been shown to be very safe and effective in aiding in weight loss. Because all medicines can react differently in different people and some can have addicting qualities, we monitor you closely and educate you on the possible side effects to look for. It is very important that we have a complete past medical history that is continuously updated and also routine physical assessments to ensure that we provide you with safe medical treatment.
** When indicated, appetite suppressant (Phentermine) is prescribed after a thorough assessment reveals NO predisposing health factors that make it contraindicated (ie hyperthyroidism, uncontrolled hypertension, glaucoma, drug abuse). A thorough assessment includes laboratory work that has an additional fee of generally around $45.00. The complete set checks cholesterol, thyroid, chemistry panel, liver, and blood counts. You are welcomed to bring a copy of your most recent labs to avoid additional lab fee's. If you are planning to have labs drawn at your PCP's office after your initial consultation at Indian Lake we are happy to request them via fax on your behalf. Thanks!
At each monthly visit we will address your current goals and achievements in a non judgmental, positive manner. If current goals are not met, or perhaps you gain weight, we identify and address any potential weight loss barriers that may exist. We are here to encourage you through this process!

Program Qualifications:
This portion of our program involves being evaluated for a FDA approved prescription appetite suppressant (when indicated). Patients with certain preexisting health conditions (i.e. hyperthyroidism, history of heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, seizure disorder, glaucoma) are not candidates for this program. Candidates for this program must have a BMI >25.0 kg/m2.
Of course, Phentermine will NOT be prescribed to patrons with NO history of ever taking the drug that currently have a BMI less than 25.0. These patients are better candidates for our LipoPLUS program to target specific fat regions. Transfer patients with a BMI less than 25.0 will only be prescribed Phentermine at the NP's discretion.
Generally our typical patient will have an increased waist circumference (>40 inches/102 cm in men or >35 inches/88 cm in women.); or a strong familial/genetic predisposition to associated co morbidities of obesity or with personal co morbidities associated with being overweight such as insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance, diabetes, osteoarthritis, gall bladder disease, elevated cholesterol, mild hypertension, or sleep apnea; or has attained weight loss with noted positive behavioral changes but have confessed counterproductive habits, mishaps, or tendencies (i.e. increased caloric intake); or have a current body weight 120% of a well documented long-standing weight that the patient maintained after age 18; or have a body fat percentage greater than 30% in females and > 25% in males.
